Should You Try Teeth Whitening Or Veneers?

Tooth Removal/Extraction | San Antonio, TX | Advanced Dental Associates

You try to keep your smile looking as nice as you can. And yet, you are not happy with what you see in the mirror.

Your yellow, stained, and dingy teeth might be healthy, but they don’t look that way.

You’ve tried whitening toothpaste, but that didn’t make much difference. You tried the over-the-counter teeth whitening gels. There was some improvement, but not as much as you wanted. (Don’t even ask about the time you tried the whitening mouthrinse.)

You want to have a white, bright smile again, but you aren’t sure what to do. You can start by calling (210) 819-5233 or contacting Advanced Dental Associates with our online form.

Schedule a consultation with one of our dentists in San Antonio to discuss professional teeth whitening and dental veneers. We can help you decide which option is the best one for you and your smile.

When Teeth Whitening Will Work

Professional teeth whitening can remove deep stains from your teeth.

These are the kinds of stains that can take years or decades to develop. And in a real sense, these stains are inevitable. So many of the foods that we eat and things that we drink add to stains on our teeth. These include:

■ Berries

■ Coffee

■ Fruits

■ Pasta sauces

■ Pizza

■ Soft drinks

■ Tea

■ Wine

This is only a partial list, but you get the idea. Almost every bite and sip you take can affect the appearance of your teeth.

Professional teeth whitening is able to do more in less time than the products you will find at the store. And if you’ve tried those commercial whitening products, then you know some are barely effective at all.

At Advanced Dental Associates, we use Opalescence products. This is as simple to use the over-the-counter products you can buy, but with some important differences.

The first difference is the custom-designed trays we will make for you. Because they are designed for your teeth, they help to keep the whitening agent where it should be to have the greatest impact on your smile.

Second, Opalescence is stronger than the products you will find at the store. When used as directed, it can make a dramatic difference in the color of your smile in just a few weeks.

If you are tired of living with stained teeth, then you can change that with a little help from our team in San Antonio.

When Dental Veneers May Be A Better Option

Stains affect everyone over time, but they are not the only reason teeth become discolored.

Your teeth may not be as white as you like because of one or more of the following:

■ Worn-down enamel

■ Injuries

■ Side effects of some medications

■ Fluorosis

Because these kinds of discolorations are not the result of stains, whitening will have little if any effect on them. As a result, you may prefer dental veneers to bring back your bright, white smile.

Likewise, people who have sensitive teeth sometimes find teeth whitening uncomfortable, and veneers offer them another way to change the colors of their smiles.

Veneers do for your teeth what false fingernails do for your fingers. One important difference is that dental veneers can last for decades with proper maintenance.

Veneers can be bonded to the front of discolored teeth to transform your smile. You may only need one veneer for a particularly problematic tooth, you may decide to get a full set of veneers instead.

At our practice, we use e.max veneers, which offer two things that are great for our patients. First, e.max veneers look like natural teeth. Second, e.max veneers are durable, so you can keep them for a long time.

A third benefit is that veneers are more stain-resistant than your teeth. That will help you maintain your while smile longer as long as you make an effort to take for them.
