Do You Need to Get Dental Debridement?

Posted on 5/24/2021 by Advanced Dental Associates
Do You Need to Get Dental Debridement?Debridement is a dental term that means we need to spend extra time cleaning your teeth before your regular checkup. It is often performed due to a large amount of tartar and plaque present on your teeth.

Reasons we Would Suggest Debridement

It is possible that you have missed several checkups. Perhaps you have been overly busy. Have you lost track of when you last came to our office? It may be that you've traveled outside of the US, and lived there for a time, and good dental checkups were not possible. Regardless of the reason, if you have missed your dental appointments you may have large deposits of tartar and plaque on your gum line.

If this is the case, and you have a significant amount of tartar on your teeth, we need to remove that before we can assess your teeth and gums. If a typical cleaning is not enough to evaluate the health of your teeth, we will suggest a debridement.

The Details Behind a Debridement

This is not a cause for concern. Instead, it is necessary to remove tartar and help you to get back on track with your oral hygiene. We use an ultrasonic device and scaling tools to clean your teeth. This breaks up the tartar as well as removes plaque and food debris. When we're finished, we will have a complete view of your teeth. We will check for cavities as well as examine your gums.

We Can Help

We want to help you take care of your teeth. The first step in doing that is to keep your routine dental exams twice a year. If that has not been possible, please give our office a call. We will help you get back on track and educate you on the best way take care for your beautiful smile.
