How to Keep Your Teeth from Hurting When You Wake Up Each DaySensitive or sore teeth seem, at times, to be the most sensitive when you first get out of bed. Read the following information to learn how to control this type of reaction.

Why Do My Teeth Hurt after I Get Up in the Morning?

To learn why your teeth may be hurting when you first awaken, you have to determine the source of the pain. One of the major causes of tooth pain involves the sinuses. If you have a sinus infection, not only will you feel pain in your head or nose, it can also be directed to the teeth. Therefore, you may feel discomfort in your back teeth. Your sleeping position can also lead to jaw or tooth pain. For example, if you place your hand beneath your jaw while sleeping, your teeth will hurt when you get up. This is especially true if you wear a bracelet or rings at night. Teeth grinding may be yet another reason for sensitive morning teeth.

What Can I Do about the Pain?

Once you determine the pain, you can take measures to prevent it. For instance, if your pain results from your sleeping position, you may want to use a supportive pillow when sleeping. Also, remove any loose jewelry before going to bed at night. If you suspect tooth grinding, contact our office for an appointment. This type of dental condition can also lead to tooth erosion or cavities. If your sinuses are causing morning tooth pain, tell your doctor and get his or her recommendation on what to take for the condition.

Any type of tooth sensitivity should be reported. If you have been having these kinds of issues, give our office a call and schedule an appointment. We can help you determine the reason for your tooth pain and take the necessary steps to eliminate it or reduce the discomfort it may be causing.
