Relieving The Pain of TMD and Teeth Grinding Treatment in San Antonio, TX
Do you wake up in the morning with jaw pain? Are you suffering from chronic headaches that seem to be without explanation? Does your jaw pop when you open and close your mouth? If any of these symptoms sound like you, you may be suffering from temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMD. This painful disorder has a multitude of causes, but one thing really matters: it hurts!
Traditionally, TMD is treated with a custom-made mouthguard which has to be worn when sleeping, and for some patients, during the day as well. Mouthguards can be uncomfortable, have an effect on your ability to speak, and can be embarrassing to wear. At Advanced Dental Associates in San Antonio, TX, we take pride in our ability to bring you the newest and most innovative dental treatments on the market, and that includes treatments for TMD.

Do you grind your teeth at night? Teeth grinding or bruxism, can be just as painful as TMD and is often a contributing factor, though it can happen independently. Our San Antonio, TX dentist can offer special bruxism mouthguards.
How do you know if you’re grinding your teeth at night? Unless someone you sleep next to has told you, you might not know, but there are other symptoms to watch out for:
- worn teeth with flat bottoms
- chipped enamel
- a dull headache originating in your temples (caused by clenching)
- tooth sensitivity
- sore jaw muscles
For patients potentially suffering from bruxism or teeth grinding, our nightguard solutions can stop grinding completely! By cushioning your teeth and preventing the clench and shift motion that bruxism sufferers engage in, you’re not just eliminating pain, but protecting your teeth and getting better sleep as well!
